The Different Types of Data Safety

There are a myriad of types of data security, but the most important ones are:

Authentication — The method of confirming that those accessing your information are who they say they are. This includes using passwords, multifactor authentication and other identity verification tools.

Encryption – The process of turning information into an unreadable format, so that only those with required keys can read it. This protects sensitive data in transit and at rest, including files, databases and email communications.

Monitoring – The practice of stopping malicious actors from accessing or moving data out of the network of your company by blocking or intercepting them at the gateway. This could include data loss prevention (DLP) encryption, and educating employees about best practices.

Backups -The ability to quickly and securely restore data in the event of a system malfunction, disaster, cyberattack or data breach. This can be achieved by creating a backup of the data in a different format, or by storing it in the cloud.

Data reduction — The process of only keeping the amount of information that is required for your business. This helps reduce your vulnerability since hackers will have less targets to attack. This can reduce storage costs, and can prevent bloat which could result in compliance issues.
